Wanna One Get “Energetic” With Debut MV

Ever since their April formation in MNET’s second season of ‘Produce 101,’ the boys of Wanna One now made their highly anticipated debut with ‘Energetic’ which charted at #1 on Korean music charts.

The deep house influenced track was composed by none other than Pentagon’s Hui, who also earned critical acclaim with the hit single ‘Never.’

Managed by YMC Entertainment, Wanna One’s debut single shows off the various charms of the eleven members and features intricate choreography and colorful cinematic cues.

While ‘Energetic’ shows off slick EDM polish, it’s surprisingly a mellow mid-tempo arrangement that allows each member to show off their unique talents.

In particular, the vocal line (comprised of members Kim Jaehwan, Ha Sungwoon, Ong Seungwoo, Hwang Minhyun, and Lee Daehwi) give the song a breath of fresh air thanks to soaring harmonizations and striking high notes.

Rappers Kang Daniel, Park Woojin, and Lai Guanlin delivered hard-hitting lines that grounded the song and matched in synch with the bass-heavy backtrack.

Meanwhile Yoon Jisung, Bae Jinyoung, and Park Jihoon acted as bridges between the vocal and rap lines of the group by deftly switching off between the two mediums with finesse.

Despite being barely out for a day, ‘Energetic’ broke the record for most unique listens on a debut single on Korea’s Melon charts within the first hour with 99,748 listeners.

Wanna One’s irresistible charm and undeniable talent is certainly redolent of their predecessors I.O.I. and we can’t wait to see what they have in store down the line!
